Skowhegan – Jeffrey L Barney, 62, of Skowhegan, passed away peacefully at home in the early hours of February 9, 2024. Jeff was born in Skowhegan on January 2, 1962, the baby of 6 children, to Charles Barney Sr. and Melvina (Tessier) Barney. Jeff grew up with the South Factory Street clan of kids. He made many lifelong friends growing up here. He had endless stories of the fun they all had. He was educated through Skowhegan’s school system and graduated with the class of 1980. He furthered his education at KVTI where he became an EMT and later went on to get his intermediate license. He worked for Redington Fairview EMS for 20+ years, serving his community and touching many lives. He worked for several other services in his tenure. Jeff also served 5 years in the Skowhegan Fire Department during the Cranes Fire era and as a department store safety security officer at SD Warren for the #2 paper machine project. On August 23, 1980, he married the love of his life, Brenda Therrien. Together they were blessed with 2 daughters. They spent 43 years together making memories doing what they loved. They especially enjoyed camping at Austin Pond, riding 4-wheelers, fishing, and hunting all up around one very special place on Moxie Pond. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Melvina (Tessier) Barney; brothers Charles Jr., Edward, and David Barney; along with many uncles, aunts, and cousins. Jeff is survived by his wife of 43 years, Brenda; daughter Jessica with husband Jeremy “my boy” and granddaughter Lauren (his sweet pea) Moody of Cornville; daughter Regina Raye with grandchildren Brayden and Madyson Hebert of Fairfield; sister Frances Kelso; brother Harry Barney of Skowhegan; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; as well as a few very special close friends, Mark Bagley, Mark Perkins, Sheila Seguin-Webb, Sheila Clapp, Andrew Fletcher, Ryan Greenwood, and Chuck Heath. A big thank you to Mike Lambke, Belinda, all the wonderful nurses and providers at Maine General Medical Center, and Maine General Homecare and Hospice. A celebration of life will be held Saturday April 6, 2024, at 1:00pm at the Skowhegan-Madison Elks Lodge - 21 Silver St. Skowhegan, ME, 04976.

What is a funny story about Jeffrey?

"One night he was sleeping while we were working and he was snoring as he was stting up on the couch. So I spit a mouthful of ice cold water in his face. He woke up cussing me out and so I ran of coure. He came after me while grabbing a thousand mil bag of lactated ringers and with his baseball pitching abilities threw it at me. He just missed although it grazed my hair as it went by and broke through 2 layers of sheet rock. We ended up changing the furniture around to make it look like we were refreshing that area and moved a giant map of maine to hide the hole. It took another year and a half for it to be noticed by management. That would have cleaned my clock if it had hit me but it was funny and it was worth it. I split cause I loved. Hahaha"
