Koa
Dumont
Apr 6, 2010 — Jul 2, 2025
Farmington - Koa Coombs Dumont, age 15, passed away tragically in a cliff jumping accident on July 2, 2025. He was fully enjoying a beautiful summer’s day with his buddies by his side.
Born on April 6, 2010, in Farmington, Maine, Koa was preparing to enter his sophomore year at Mt. Blue High School. From the moment he arrived in this world, Koa lived life with unmatched energy and purpose. He approached everything he did with passion, curiosity, and a fearless spirit.
Koa was a remarkably multi-talented young man whose interests knew no bounds. He loved soccer, alpine skiing, mountain biking, dirt biking, backpacking, surfing, tennis, jujitsu, lacrosse, camping, cold plunges, hunting and fishing. He was also a gifted musician who played the guitar, saxophone, and trumpet. One of his favorite ongoing challenges was trying to beat his mom at ping pong—a feat he proudly achieved just two days before his passing.
Koa was committed to staying active and fit, often spending time at the gym with his brother and friends. He was also a hardworking and responsible teen who took on neighborhood jobs and earned a lot of respect working side by side with his father on construction sites—always proud to earn money to support his hobbies. He was so capable of anything he put his mind to and he was unbelievably driven.
More than anything, Koa cherished his time with friends. He was incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by a close-knit group who shared his zest for life and unwavering loyalty. Their bond was deep and enduring, and they will continue to carry his spirit forward.
Koa’s ultimate best friend was his brother, Ryland. Though they shared the usual sibling ups and downs, their bond was unbreakable. They were each other’s biggest fans—encouraging, challenging, and supporting one another through every stage of life. Their love was unconditional, and their connection ran deep. Whether they were wrestling on the trampoline, swimming, playing soccer, shopping, trading clothes and cologne, walking downtown, or hitting the gym together, they simply loved spending time side by side. Their friendship was one of Koa’s greatest joys.
In addition, Koa was such a kindhearted, loving person. He gave the best hugs that will forever be missed. He was looking forward to taking all he has learned from life onto greater adventures such as spending time at his family’s remote camp in Alaska.
Koa is survived by his loving parents and biggest adventure buddies, Mark “Cedar” Dumont and Velda Yamashiro, and his beloved brother, Ryland Dumont, as well as a wide circle of family, friends and coaches who will deeply miss this extraordinary young man. The family is so incredibly grateful for the community that helped him thrive and for the families who treated him like their own and loved him with all their hearts.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who assisted in the search for Koa and supported them through this unimaginable time. They were all so incredibly kind, and their level of professionalism was top notch. Special thanks to the Hallowell Police Chief, Christopher Giles, for his comforting words, “These kids weren’t doing anything wrong, they were enjoying their summer. This is terribly tragic.”
There will be a celebration of life at Titcomb Mountain in Farmington, Maine, on Thursday, July 10th from 6:00-9:00 PM. Food and drinks will be provided. No release of balloons, please.
